The editor: oh man, we need a new superman comic.
The writer: I got it dude, my girlfriend portia is so mean sometimes, I was thinking like my girlfriend can take on superman or something.
The Editor: OK, but we need a hook. Maybe she could be an alien. No, we did that last week, how about a pirate?
The writer: oh yeah, that's great. Portia loves dogs too. we should put that in there. Maybe they'll shoot cosmic energy out of there mouths. That would rule.
The editor: that sounds good, I'll give it to Doug to do the art.
